"With the cost of housing and operating homes, people are looking to use their (secondary) homes for more than five or six months a year," said Evans. There were nearly 1,100 registrations for the three days for the winter event, topped by 450 on Saturday. Included was a new nationwide craze - an RC (Radio Control) sailing competition in which owners of small sailboats compete in marked lanes in the indoor pool, with electric fans blowing into the pool to power the sails and competitors adjusting rudders and riggers with remote controls to navigate the boats. ![]() With activities that included building gingerbread houses, rides on horse-drawn sleighs with atmospheric bursts of snow, sledding, a chili cook-off and ice carving demonstrations, it was a welcome winter reprieve for residents. Hundreds of full- and part-time residents of Lake Naomi Club and Timber Trails communities in Pocono Pines flocked to the Lake Naomi Community Center in late January for its inaugural Winter Festival weekend. ![]()
